Could you please introduce yourself?
Paolo Semeraro: My name is Paolo Semeraro. In 1990, my brother Marco and I created Banks Sails Italy. From being the Bank Sails dealers for Italy, we became the group's leaders in Europe. We are currently in the process of expanding our European operations by opening new lofts via franchise agreements. We provide the franchisers with custom string sail and design support. The launch of 'Membrane', the use of the design software 'AZUREProject' and the setting of a new lamination facility represent key incentives for sailmakers who are planning to work with us.

What proportion of you production is string sails?
Paolo Semeraro: Roughly 90%.

How long have you been using 'AZUREProject' for?
Paolo Semeraro: Over 3 years. Having contributed to its development, we know it inside-out. We use its functions at 120% of their potential: we are able to design in 3D with a total control over the 2D flattened sail. Despite being extremely advanced software, we easily developed a database containing our core designs and string layouts! We produce very fast sails because we can easily input hull data, the mast bend (measured on the boat). The visualization in 3D is very realistic. The fiber layout tool allows designers to be extremely creative: it doesn't limit the number of fiber groups. Day after day we are developing faster, lighter and aesthetically superior string layouts. The only radial sails we manufacture are spinnakers and gennakers. We design them using AZUREProject with good results.
